I know this will sound strange but the worst case for me was when a dog came up and licked my elderly cat who then raised his head and let it drop. I though he was ignoring the dog but he was dead. Gail found out that tigger was dead when she tried to feed him. That was striking.
You must be very blessed to be so tender-hearted toward your animals. Kudos. Even your dog paid the cat his respects, and was likely trying to communicate the situation to you. I can't read minds, either. lol!
We have other cats I'm not so happy with. Idiot is about 16-17 years old and will literally bite the hand (Gail's) that feeds him to try and teach obedience. I take out a soft bristle broom when he tries that crap with me.
